Tsunomiya Torii Riverbank
更新日:2025年2月5日
At the Tsunomiya Riverbank, the Tsunomiya Torii Gate stands. This gate was once the First Torii Gate and former approach to Katori Jingū Shrine. When the water transportation business was booming, many writers and artists, such as Watanabe Kazan and Akamatsu Sōtan, would visit Tsunomiya. On the riverbank, there is a lamp that once burned throughout the night, serving as a lighthouse, and a stele inscribed with a poem written by Yosano Akiko.
In addition, the embankment along the Tsunomiya Torii Riverbank has become the Ōtone Cycling Road. Enjoy the majestic Tone River and its river breeze as you cycle along the 21.7 km road, which stretches from Suigo-ōhashi Bridge to the dam at the mouth of the Tone River.
