Roadside Station and Riverside Station: Mizu-no-Sato Sawara

Mizu-no-Sato Sawara is the first facility in the nation to combine a roadside station and a riverside station.

Katori City, which is blessed with temperate climate and fertile farmlands, is known as one of the most prominent agricultural producers in the prefecture. As such, fresh vegetables, fruits, and other local specialties produced in Katori City, are sold at the roadside station.

Meanwhile, at the adjacent riverside station, you can enjoy recreational water activities in the wetlands, such as riding a sightseeing boat, canoeing, and bird watching.

Looking over the Tone River from Mizu-no-Sato Sawara, you can see a small isolated island called Tanuki Island. If you are lucky, you might encounter a wild tanuki (raccoon-dog)…

• Approx. 5 min by taxi or 15 min by foot from JR Sawara Station
• There is also a loop bus from JR Sawara Station. However, it only comes a few times a day on weekdays. On weekends and holidays, the loop bus comes 10 times a day.

• Approx. 10 min from Sawara-Katori IC on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway

• Take the Kantetsu Green Bus from Tokyo Station, bound for Hokota/Aso. Get off at the Sawara Station bus stop and walk for 15 minutes.
• Take the Keisei Bus (Chiba Kotsu) from Tokyo Station or Hamamatsu-chō Station, bound for Choshi via Sawara. Get off at Katori City Hall and walk for 5 minutes.
