Sawara Cherry Blossom Festival

更新日:2021年6月30日

The Sawara Cherry Blossom Festival takes place at Katori Jingū Shrine, Sawara Park, and Jukken River.

Katori Jingū Shrine

Katori Jingu Shrine

700 cherry trees representing 15 different species, such as Yoshino cherry, Oshima cherry, and Japanese cherry, line the front approach and former front approach, creating a cherry blossom tunnel, which bustles with shrine visitors and cherry blossom viewers.

During the festival period, paper-covered lanterns decorate the front approach and are lit up at night. The spectacle of the evening cherry blossoms coupled with the sound of footsteps on the gravel creates a magical atmosphere.

In addition, the area near the horse-riding ground and Gokoku Shrine (a shrine honoring the spirits of fallen soldiers) at the back of the precinct is the perfect spot for admiring the cherry blossoms while having lunch.

Sawara Park (Suwa Park)

Sawara Park

A park enjoyed by the locals as a resting area. From the hilltop, you can view the entire city and the Tone River. During the festival period, 600 paper-covered lanterns of various sizes are lit at night.
