Katori Shrine


Katori Jingu (Katori Shrine), believed to offer protection to military men, has been admired since the ancient times by the Imperial government and Samurai's military government.
The main hall(honden)and the two-storied gate(romon),both built in 1700,are designated as Nationat Important Cuttural Properties.
On 15 April every 12th year, a colorfur festival is performed, when a portable shrine (mikoshi)is transported on the Tone river to Kashima Shrine and back. From Sawara staion to Katori Jingu, by bus(about 0:20h).
